WHEN AND HOW DID YOU GET INTO FISHING?
From an early age my family and I would backpack into remote locations with my family for days at a time.
SHARE A FAVOURITE FISHING MEMORY OR EXPERIENCE
I got the opportunity to go fishing for Kingies right at the top of the North Island, literally right under the lighthouse at Cape Reinga. It’s an experience I won’t forget.
WHERE ARE YOUR FAVOURITE FISHING SPOTS?
I’m from Whitianga (NZ), so having access to lots of locations including the Great Mercury islands and all along the Coromandel is a lot of fun. I also love fishing in the Bay of Islands and out at Great Barrier Island.
WHY DO YOU LOVE TO FISH?
For me it’s the remote places I go, the people I meet along the way and the battle off the rocks.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE STYLE OF FISHING?
Straylining big baits from the rocks, although big live baits being eaten gets the heart going.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE BLACK MAGIC PRODUCT?
The telescopic landing net – because I mainly fish from the rocks, this can mean tricky landing situations.
WHAT ARE YOUR FISHING GOALS FOR THE NEXT 12 MONTHS?
To show the world what I have in my backyard! To keep putting great people onto great fish.
WHAT WOULD BE YOUR DREAM CATCH OR FISHING ADVENTURE?
I want to be the first person in New Zealand to catch a land-based marlin.
WHAT TUPS WOULD YOU GIVE SOMEONE LEARNING TO FISH?
Be patient, learn the basic knots and rigs or take a charter and watch others techniques.
